When we initially started our CBD business over a year ago, we looked at the varying product concentrations and costs for those products. One of the CBD concentrations we decided to sell was a 500 milligram THC Free concentration, striving for an entry level price point. We had no idea our 500 milligram THC Free concentration would become one of our best-selling products and for clients we had not thought about at the time.
We live in a 55+ community and had inquiries from a number of our customers if CBD would help their aging pets relieving a number of mobility issues. In response to those inquiries, we researched the available information for CBD use and serving sizes for various small animals. We attempted to discuss CBD with veterinarians and found a wide difference in opinion on CBD use for small animals. Some touted CBD as the biggest gimmick to come along in decades and others had favorable opinions from the initial limited research and favorable comments from pet owners. We later learned that in many States veterinarians were prohibited from even discussing CBD for small animals much less recommending CBD as a treatment.
CBD benefits for small animals appear to be varied and primarily anecdotal due to the very limited actual studies that have been completed. Some results with small animals are similar to human testing and use; CBD does not help some people and for others the product does. Finding a serving size became the next challenge, again, limited by actual studies and thus again mostly anecdotal. An additional issue for serving sizes was the widely varying actual CBD content in products tested. Desert Sunrise DBD products are third party laboratory tested and the results are available for each product on our website.
Veterinarians who recognize benefits of CBD for small animals suggest a starting serving at 1mg per 10 pounds of body weight. Our Desert Sunrise CBD 500mg THC Free Vanilla tincture contains 500mg per 30ml bottle. The droppers in our bottles are a standard 1ml graduated dropper. Each full dropper at 1ml contains 16.6 milligrams of CBD. A serving at the 0.25 ml line from the dropper contains approximately 42mg, thus a starting serving for a 42-pound small animal. The most commonly used formula for a standard dropper is 20 drops per milliliter. Thus, the number of drops per serving can be calculated for smaller animals below 10 pounds.
Our customers who use our Desert Sunrise CBD tincture prefer the vanilla flavor and say it is a great combination with peanut butter to entice difficult larger animals. Our 500mg THC Free tincture is being used for a wide range of small animals from cats to larger canines.
One customer has a 7-pound feline with a variety of feline arthritis and was receiving little relief from expensive medications. They had been giving the feline another brand of CBD snacks for several years with some change in the feline’s activity. When we calculated the actual CBD content, the snacks provided much less than suggested for the feline’s size and continued to go up in price. They decided to try Desert Sunrise DBD 500mg THC Free tincture. They have been serving two drops of the 500mg tincture at each of the feline’s 3 small meals a day and have noticed an immediate change in the feline’s energy and increased activity.
Another customer has a 40-pound English Bulldog with anxiety manifested through incessant scratching and difficulty moving around the house. After starting Desert Sunrise CBD with her food, Ivy no longer sits around scratching and now runs and behaves as she did when she was much younger.
These are but two of many examples from our many customers noting positive results using Desert Sunrise CBD 500 mg THC Free tincture.
